Bridging the Gap for the Aging LGBTQ Community in Southern Illinois
GRIS has collaborated with Southern Illinois Healthcare (SIH), Jackson County Health Department (JCHD), Egyptian Area Agency on Aging (EAAA), SIU School of Medicine Center for Rural Health & Social Service Development, Shawnee Health, and Rainbow Café (RC) to bring administrators and human resource departments to our summit to discuss policy for the aging LGBTQ community in Southern Illinois.
The summit focused on four main points:
Do you have a specific policy for the aging LGBTQ and those Aging with HIV in Southern Illinois?
If you have a policy, can you think of ways to improve upon these policies?
How can these policies be filtered down to frontline staff?
Would your agency be open to receiving Cultural Competency Training on LGBTQ + and those Aging with HIV?
The summit laid the groundwork that will address the needs of the 50 + LGBTQ community in Southern Illinois.
